Catherine and Klaus have been a fantastic couple to work with right from when we first met. It’s been fun getting to know them better through their engagement session this past summer and all the other little things that come with planning a wedding! I always love building this rapport with my clients and it makes for a really comfortable and relaxed wedding day.
Despite the weather, which was slightly disappointing after the summer like temps we’d been having, Catherine and all her girls were upbeat and full of smiles. Catherine had her hair stylist come out to her place as well as Sarah from Two chicks and a bag of makeup. It was a relaxed morning and I had plenty of time to photograph the details… something I love to have time to do! From her bright purple Kate Spades to her stunning dress (from 7th Avenue), it was all fun to photograph.
After the close and personal service at Messiah Lutheran Church we headed off to the Hydro Building. Both Dave and Breanne from their wedding party work there so I was pretty pumped about our “behind the scenes access”! I have to say a big thank you to Dave who showed me around a few days before the wedding, allowing me to gather some great location ideas to save me time on the wedding day. There are so many amazing places in the building that just don’t get seen by most people! My favourite images probably came from the patio area. It was pretty cold but I think it was worth it since the wind blowing gave some great movement to Catherine’s veil. I also enjoyed photographing in the common area that had some beautiful leading lines and plenty of light. Love the image of Catherine walking and laughing! I would have loved another hour shooting there but before I knew it time was up. :)
We made our second stop at a beautiful house that belonged to the family of one of the bridesmaids. The shots from the dining room ended up looking pretty classy – I guess a huge, crystal chandelier will do that! Catherine loved the floral wall paper in the piano room so we made sure we included it. Our last stop was back in Headingly. The wind was pretty cold by this stage so we made it quick at the train bridge… just for Klaus. :)
Klaus is the head chef at Breezy Bend so it was only natural to have the reception there. I have to say I’d been looking forward to the reception meal for a while, knowing that he would plan something extra special. It didn’t disappoint! The gang at Breezy Bend spent all week setting up for the reception and the results were stunning. Catherine also had a lot of help planning her big day from one of her bridesmaids, Andrea, who owns Soiree event planning.Planned perfectly supplied all the linen’s and McDiarmid Flowers supplied all the flowers for the whole day.
From the start of the day at their house to the fabulous reception, both Meagan and I really enjoyed spending the day with Klaus and Catherine. They are an awesome couple and it’s easy to see why they have such good friends.
