Emily and Mark were referred to me by their friend, JoEllen, who is a photographer herself (One fifty first photography). It always feels great when other photographers value your work and trust sending their friends to you. Thanks JoEllen!:)
Both Emily and Mark wanted their wedding to be a little different from what’s typically done. For starters it was on a Sunday, but the really cool thing was that they had an evening ceremony and their cocktail reception all at the Concert Hall. It was a true downtown Winnipeg affair, beginning with The Fairmont where I met up with Emily and the girls when the whole wedding part was getting ready. Mark started the day off right by ordering champagne and chocolate covered strawberries for Emily and her party!
Once everyone was ready it was off to the Concert Hall to have the “first look”, but I managed to squeeze in some time to photograph Emily on her own before Mark arrived. We got some absolutely stunning images there! Once the couple saw each other for the first time we took time photographing just the two of them in a number of different locations. Later on we headed just down Main Street to the Millennium Centre with the whole wedding party. It is a fantastic indoor location during these colder months as it provides a wonderful backdrop for photographs but you get to stay toasty warm inside. :) I did manage to convince the party that a quick outdoor shot was a necessity, well as you can tell from the image they felt otherwise… the image isn’t posed or set up perfectly but I love it because it captures exactly what they were feeling. Man, it was cold and super windy! If nothing else it will be an experience they will never forget, especially Chicka, one of Mark’s groomsmen. He happens to be an Aussie… who lives in Atlanta… and just got back from vacation in Mexico… only to come to Winnipeg for a winter wedding! :)
The Concert Hall was beautifully lit up for the ceremony and looked spectacular. A personal note that I really appreciated was their choice in music: since they are both school teachers they had the school jazz band playing as everyone came in.
It was a fantastic day and I am so thrilled with the images; I can’t wait for Emily and Mark to see them all!
